Well, I left the house yesterday morning to a crystal clear tank and everything seemed fine. I came home afterwork and the tank was milky white, my skimmer was going crazy and it stunk! I'm assuming the 2 corals I had that was ID as "palys" died and were responsible for the mess because crap was coming off of them (didn't know they did that) and the only thing I could say that caused it was the lighting because they were getting 6.5 watts per gal in my 38 gal and now, they were only getting 3 watts per gal in the pod. Also, all of my gorgonians and zoo's were all doing well, as well as my fish, and coral bandit shrimp. Since being added into the pod, I noticed that all the polyps from these same 2 corals never seemed to come out totally and lately, for the past week, they stayed totally closed and were like "oozing"/sliming some. I had planned on taking them back to where I got them from seeing they weren't doing so well, but being home sick from last Wednesday I never got a chance to and so here I sit. I did a water change last night and changed my carbon to see if it would help, but woke up this morning and found one of my clowns had jumped out of the tank! I tell you...When it rains it pours!

So...Not sure what I will meet when I get home. My wife says the tank looks like crap so I talked to Andrew and all of the corals, my one clown I have left and my shrimp are all going into his tank tonight until I can get the tank sorted out. I guess where the tank is so small, it was affected so quickly so I've got some work to do to get things back in good shape. I'm not sure what type of setup I will have from here, but not worried about that part yet. I just need to get my tank straight and make sure everything is stable for a few weeks/months before I chance anymore livestock in there.

Just thought I'd share that with you guys. I'll let you'll know how it goes:)

Sorry to hear all that Krish, maybe a FOWLR for now would be easier to keep until you can get things settled. Hope the rest does well & don't let it get you down, it will get better!

yes as long as he doens't put a lion fish in a 10 gal

Krish, I feel real bad for you! I know exactly what your going through. It seems no matter what you do you can't catch a break. I hope that things turn around for both you and I real quick.

Hang in there Krish!

Nick

Thanks guys. Yeah, it was sort of my fault for not getting those things out quicker when I saw a change, but like I said, I was sick, couldn't go out, and I didn't want to toss them in the yard, but put them back in the water so they could make it and so...

Anyways, Emily seems to love watching the fish so I think Scooter has a pretty good idea for this tank. I'd probably put one or 2 corals in like some zoo's for color etc, but it's probably in my best interest for now. We'll see though...I don't want to make and definate decisions right now. My main concern is getting everything else out of the tank before they suffer so I'll get to it when I get home. Then I'll decide on the tank. I'm sure it will have to go through a cycle again and what not, so I'll just let it ride...:)

u got it,

your still da man you will bounch back with the quickness i know it

Sorry to hear about your losses man, bummer. :(

Yeah, what he said... I think.
You'll be back in no time. :)

Dude you know what you need?
A constant small volume water change automated set up. Small tanks are harder. If it was always changing a little water I think they would work better.
I am sorry you are having problems with your pod. I am sure you will get it all fixed up.

LOL! Thanks Brett! It will get all back together:)

Thanks Steve and not a bad idea. The only problem with an incadent like what I just experienced was it only took a few hours to make a huge turn (crystal clear that morning and cloudy white that afternoon). I would have had to be automatically changing quite a bit of water while I was to work until I got home to remove the corals to not have that bad of an outcome. I remember this one time Andrew and I went out collecting fish and he collected some sort of sea cucumber or something that looked like it and no lie!! Not even 15 minutes after putting this thing in the cooler with all the fish and walking up to the car to head home, the cucumber looking thing squirted something out into the cooler and killed everything! I had never seen anything like that in my life! We were all stunned!

So the lesson of the day is, "Don't put any and everything in your tank" :doubt:

Really sorry to hear about this Krish! Sounds like you have a plan for your livestock, which is a good thang. Other than that... waterchange... waterchange... waterchange.

I know that I have enjoyed watching all of your tanks as you get them up and running to your pleasure... so I'm looking to the fugure WITH you now, and looking forward to this one comming back up for you! :D

I'm so sorry to hear this. I hope everything survived the day ok. Cheers on getting everything back in order.

This is called autoevisceration. When they get real stressed, they basically puke out all of their innards (including organs) and then regrow them later. In the ocean, the cucumber survives and it's no big deal. In an enclosed system, it's a different story. Their rotting innards create a huge mess.

sorry to here this krish. what types of coral was it?

Krish, sorry for your losses. I agree with the comments on small tanks being easy to sour. Want a nano? Have a 100 gallon sump on it.

Curt, me thinks sometimes drinking too much, ,makes one puke out innards:cry:  .

krish, I am so sorry to read this. Man, I was just reading on another club board about this same thing happening to his sps tank. I know you'll get things straightened back and going again. Just hang in there and keep the faith.

this is why i dont any echinoderms im my tanks, they all eat something i want, or starve, or secreate toxins, or puke, or something...bummer krish, you'll rebound soon enough my friend, just another brick in the wall...

even tho we stress waterchange,

isnt to much bad?

ive bin water changeing every day, if not every other,

Thanks Ed...Deefinately a bit upsetting because everything was going so well and it was my first attempt with corals, but you live and learn, not get discouraged and so I'll just press on:)

Thanks Curt! And by the looks of it, everything is still kicking. I'm just waiting for Andrew to get here to take everything with him. About the cucumber, that's interesting...Nature sure has a way with dealing with things...:)

sorry to here this krish. what types of coral was it?

Thanks Steve and the coral was ID'd as a paly, but the pics I have been shown of "palys" seemed a bit different. Not sure if coming from the Bahamas, the species are a little bit different, but I was told that they were pretty toxic.

LOL!! That's a thought!:p Thanks Mike...I figure where nano's are concerned, they need to be kept simple with the livestock which is the direction I will be heading next. We'll see what I figure up this time.

Thanks Sue!!! I will...:) I'm a bit bummed (more because my clown jumped) but I'm not discouraged. I'll get the tank back together.:)

Thanks Mark! I know you will be happy to hear that that skimmer probably helped quite a bit! That was the most that skimmer ever skimmed yet! I've had to empty the cup twice already and came home to another full one loaded with that white stuff!

Here's a shot of the tank about 24 hours after the water change
