What do you guys use to set your initial temp setting when calibrating your temp controller? I have a few of those cheap glass thermometers, but they are fairly inaccurate. I know consistency is the key when maintaining a successful reef, but I’m curious where to find a accurate glass thermometer. Thanks

Food Grade thermometers/probes can be found fairly inexpensively. These can be calibrated using either boiling water or a water/ice ratio of 1/1. I used to be a chef and I typically relied on the water/ice ratio. With a glass of ice water and the thermometer sitting in it for 15 seconds, you should have a temp of 32. The thermometer can be calibrated by holding the nut that is just below the dial and turning the dial until the needle points to 32. The thermometer holder usually has a "wrench" on it for holding the nut.
