Hey guys,

A friend of mine is thinking of visiting either Mount Rainier Park or Olympic National Park. I know you guys have had fires and mudslides. Which is the better one to go to?

C

BOTH! I go to Rainier at least 3 times a year. If you goto Rainier, you may want to camp on the Northeast side (Sunrise area, the White River Campground) It doesn't open for a couple more months though.
Mt. Rainier is going to be very busy rebuilding roads and trails this year as most were damaged last November and January.
Olympic has everything from ocean beaches and tide pools to high mountain alpine meadows.
Rainier is just super impressive with lots of good hiking.
Here is Raniers website, it will keep you up to date on how the rebuilding effort is going as well as when the campgrounds will open.
The biggest factor I would say is when do you plan on coming?

I'm not sure the naked women thing is what they are looking for. I'm asking for a friend and her 11 year old daughter.
:)

I'd say ONP, but I'm biased since I grew up on the edge of it.

Still, its gorgeous, and a bit of a different feel than Rainier that I prefer.

I like going to westport an 18 mile long stretch of sand you can drive your car on and stay in a hotel overnight. It's great if you like the beach :)
and if someone wants to go on a long days fishing in the ocean there are charters to go on. To me it's a vacation there are places a bit away where you can camp on the beach but I never have . I really prefer traveling lite staying in a hotel/motel and eating at different spots I hate dragging everything along but thats me :)
