can clams be kept under pc lighting?

No I don't think so. Metal halide or possibly t5 ho.

I have had long term 2 plus year success wit deresa clams under p.c. light in two different tanks of my customers.
That said how many watts of p.c.?
I mean a 36 watt bulb isnt gonna work. 4 96 watts on a 75 is fine, 6 96 watt on a 150 is fine.

I have a 3.5 year old crocea under 400 watts of PCs in a 100 gallon tank at 18" of depth and it is doing very well. The MH reefers will tell you different. However, I agree with wrightme43 that a derasa is your best option, but not your only one. So the answer to your question is YES.
