Can it be saved?

Just wondering if I can do anything about my stupidity? Ok the story goes...a rock in my tank fell on my Bali deep water coral and literally broke about a dozen small branches off. I kept the larger and am trying to get them to attach elsewhere but the mother colony is now starting to bleach from the base up. This happened a couple of weeks ago and it seemed fine until this morning. Any suggestions? I will try to post a picture ASAP.

If you email me the picture I will get it up for you while you are gone. I am not sure what you can do but isolate the piece. Is the tissue coming off or just bleaching?If bleaching but still has tissue, keep it low in the light. Don't overdo lighting on it. Make sure it has good water movement around it.

Hi Chuck thanks for the help. I seems to be bleaching and losing a bit of tissue both. You think I should move it down in the tank also?

To me it seems to be RTNing. If it is true tissue loss down there where I see white, I would consider fragging the good branches and using super glue on the ends where it breaks and glue them onto rock rubble or a rock in the tank. Maybe the super glue will help keep the RTN from moving upward?

I have had a few instances of corals comming in from shipping and RTNing.
I have found that if you are able to frag out good braches above the RTN spot you should be alright.

About a month ago I had to make a frag of a frag that was RTNing, and it is now doing fine. Just make sure to get the break far enough up that it doesnt have any tissue sluffing off.

Thanks DR B I did just that with one of the larger branches that seems to not be affected. I hope it does OK. Do you think I should frag it all? Well anything that is saveable?

I personally would frag out and save as much as possible.
If you dont frag it, it will have pretty much no chance of survival anyways.

Yep I would have to agree the deeper water sps are even more sensitive the most sps. i ouwl frag everything you can and toss the affected peices.

I fragged it out and just got home and lost 95% of the frags. I have just two small pieces that are surviving now. Thanks for all the help. I did what I could but it didn't work completely.
Bummer. Big bummer.

That looks like an Acropora speciosa? I currently have one turning green, but not large enuf to frag yet.

I just love the thin branches.

That colony was my most favorite and I have 2 teeny tiny bits that are surviving now and am hoping for the best. I am currently setting up a 180 so everything is in limbo right now but maybe oneday we can do some swapping.
As for the exact species I am not sure. I would need to do some research.
