Cauliflower coral pollup extension

This coral is impossible to keep happy. Does anyone know what conditions cause the pollups to open so I can target feed this filter feeder. High water movement perhaps? I can get some extension on one side of tank, but not the other.

matt are you talking about the leather or sps version of this coral. I get lost with the common names

the yellow/orange leather, not the sps (sorry).

lol no problem. Leathers like a bit of light but nothing to strong. good medium/high flow to keep them clean and to help them shed. Dont try to target feed this coral. It will get all it needs from direct absorbtion of nutrients through its tissue and from fish poop.
