Cerith and Nassarius snails

I have two questions with this one. First how many of each would be ideal in a 36 gal tank. Second where can i order them from without having to make an order of 100 dollars or more? Thanks in advance!

depending how much sand you have id shoot for around anywhere from 10-15 nassarius, and depending on how much rock and algea probably around 20-25 ceriths. you can find cerith and nassarius snails at a couple lfs here in WA, when you purchase aroudn 20+ at the lfs youll basically get the same price or better as online.

i got a 30, i had more then what i have now.

the nassasus snails need meat, the cierth do very well.

I'd actually go a lot more conservative than that. The snails added should be based on need and available self sustaining food supply, not merely tank size.

Personally speaking, I would not add more than about 5 nassarius and 10 cerith snails. These are going to be primarily bottom dwelling so there's no need to look at the tank as a whole. Simply the sand and the first few inches or so of the rock. They will climb the glass and such but they'll have little effect on it's cleanliness.

As for where, I'd suggest posting in a few of the vendor forums local to you and ask if they have them.

Or you could add a couple of Giant Tongan Nassarius Snails, they are around 1". They scoot pretty fast and come out of the sand whenever food is present.

I love these snails. If all you are looking for is turning sand they do a great job of it as well as scavenging. I recently even had them breed as we found babies crawling everywhere. They seem to be very hardy as far as snails go. Once we're open we'll be selling them 10 for $20 and the small nassarius and ceriths 20 for $20.
