It is a shame that people inject dyes into these poor fish. I imagine the survival rate is very low! Neon tetras glow just fine without dyes IMO.

According to the site it is not dye. It is a natural gene that they found they can "turn-on" with genetics.
 
Interesting, if that is true it is great, there seems to be a market for these un-naturally colored fish and I think I could accept genetic altering better than injecting dyes.

Fortunately marine fish are naturally beautiful, that is why I got into this hobby.
 
My buddy has a bunch of these in his tank. Supposedly they were bred to emit that color, then used in rivers to show possible pollution that kills fish. Something like that.
 
I have two of them. They have very bright color under one 24w bulb. I believe they are genetically altered zebra fish, using genes from jelly fish or corals. I remember when they were first introduced people threw a fit about it. I heard that for a while, California would not allow retailers to sell them.
