check valve for my new tank?

i'm setting up the new tank 125 gals,,gonna start off with the FO with live rock

i want to used the 2 check valves 1 1/4",,come right off from the bottom of the tank,,,for the return,how the liable of CV and CV failure(why i thinking of using 2CV in series),,could anybody tell me ,that is such a good idea?

Dang,

I believe the most common problem with using Check Valves is they will (over time) build up from the Calcium in our tanks and stick in the open posistion...or at least not fully close.

For my ease of mind, it was a much safer option to ensure I used a syphon break on my return lines so during any power losses I know I won't continue draining my tank out onto my floor.

if ,i design to used the check valve:flapper valve or ball valve will be the best with optional of union shut off valve for every 3 months clean upand test.

We recently had a similar discussion within our own club's forums. Check valves can fail, as mentioned. They require maintenance. They cost money. They are an obstruction in the water flow. An anti-siphon hole costs nothing, doesn't need maintenance, and, by the laws of physics, can't fail. Perhaps it would be a good idea, I guess, to make sure it's clear every now and then, though.

Dang,

If you are set on using the Check Valve setup, I believe as long as you are extreamly diligent on your maintenance with them (doing the shut-off valves, so you can remove and clean) and during that maintenance you are inspecting for any wear damage as well... that your idea of the Check Valve will do what you are wanting it to.

I just know me, and in my plumbing, I'm better at the "set it and forget it" type mentality.
