Chiller charge??

Anyone do or know of a place that does coolant charges for chiller???

Well Mike, anwhere that can do a air-conditioner should be able to charge up a chiller. I personally have never had to deal with that, but it is worth a shot.

believe it or not Mike but go to your local car repair shop that is capable or recharging your ac unit and they will do it alot cheaper than most anyone else. Otherwise you have to go to a certified heating and cooling tech $$$$$

I would say get a HVAC tech... It shouldnt be too much for them to even come out to your place and fill it at your place... Local Car shop will charge a fortune... However if its r-134 as most of the newer chillers are you can fill it yourself and get the r-134 from the local auto parts store... r-12 or r-22 ya need to get someone to do it for ya... Automotive shops charge A lot for filling Freon in cars so I would check with HVAC guys...

Mine is the older style freon. I check the car place and it was pretty expensive for what it is. I will check out the hvac guys

Unless you understand what evaporator superheat and liquid subcooling is I recommend having some one with some experience check it out. You may also want to make sure the condenser coil is clean, check the evaporator coil also for build up and general poor condition.

Ok so if I am understanding this correctly, this means that your coming oer to pick up a couple of roses and a coral or two right???

not sure what system it is but if it is a r-12 system you can use a refridgerant called freeze 12. it is a direct replacment for r-12. I haven't bought any in about a year but i'm pretty sure it still is just a over the counter freon. if it's r134 then it should be no problem either. hth

The older r-12 is getting rarer and rarer and will soon not be allowed at all I heard.....I converted the ac on my ol' Montero over to r-134 from r-12 myself...easy....r-134 doesnt work as good as r-12 but is supposedly better for the environment. There is no difference in working with it, your just not supposed to gas out the r-12 into the atmosphere so techs have to collect it. Besides the ozone hole was a big hoax

Hey Mike,
If you have lost the charge in your chiller you have a leak, freon won't wear out. If you pay the bucks to have it recharged it will just leak out again. A good shop will press it up with nitrogen and check for leaks, then evacuate it before they recharge it.

Ive got plenty of 134a and r12 check your unit and make sure its r12 or r134a.

yep larry is right, if it is low it has leaked out, there is a problem somewhere, a small leak may be difficult to find and it you recharg your system without finding it, you can go a while until it will go low again. (part time job long long ago).

most of your r134a has dye in you can use a uv lite or a black lite to see the dye

You can also pull a vacuum on the system. Either way vac testing and/or dye testing is part of general service. If its a old system, r12 is prone to o-ring break down and the will leak slowly over time. The best thing is to retrofit it with the 134a, also a easy task as long as it doesnt use a expensive hard to find accumulator.
