Well,
I woke up this morning and noticed one of my little chromis in my overflow box. Well, one minute later and I can't seem to locate him in the overflow box any longer. I assume he is in the sump, so I looked everywhere and now I can't find him. question is! could he be stuck in side the downpipe? has that happened to anyone?

yes he could be, or might have flopped onto the floor, i havent had this happen with my saltwater tank but did happen with a freshwater tank i once had.

I've had a small Chromis end up in my sump the same way. Also aPeppermint Shrimp and a Pseudochromis twice. My latest was a Turbo snail that ended up plugging my drain hose and causing several gallons of water to overflow my display...lol. In fact, my girlfriend informed me about 2 hours ago that our Starry Blenny is in the overflow box...Grrr. Hence the reason I'm switching to a CPR overflow with a fish screen.

The fish screen is an absolute must!

If your overflow is covered, then the fish only has 2 places to go; forward and back the way he came. My guess is that he went back the way had came. He's probably not strong enough to battle the current in the pipes for too long so you should get your answer soon.

Plastic canvas - while a great fix for your powerheads in an anemone tanks also makes for a great overflow screen... I've had to install it on all mine since that evil pseudochromis I gave to Mike (haha) and now my new wrasse seem to love to go surfing :)

Let's hope you find your little chromis safe and sound in ur sump!

happened to me with a damsel too...if i were you i'd turn off return pump and maybe really investigate your overflow...not sure how visible it is but mine was in a corner and very hard to get to. plus smaller fish can hide very good. mine went through the utube and was stuck by the stockman standpipe (he couldnt fit through a .25 inch hole)
