Hey everyone!

I am stuck on which pump to buy for my CL. The pump will need to push through an Oceans Motions 8 way. I have no Idea how much head pressure those produce... I am going to order it with 4 ports open instead of just two. I was thinking that 1000gph at each port would be best. That would make 4000gph flow all the time just from the CL. I am also planning 1800gph through the sump for a total 5800. Will that be enough for flow for SPS in a tank that measures 96x30x30? Thanks!

These prices are as good as you can get for these pumps, but you may choose another supplier I just thought of this one first.

Also take a look at distrubreefers tank page.

I'm working on a cl tomorrow.

Did I ever tell you that at one time I would race my Hyper 7 here locally? It was a blast but ended up selling it. :(

You will want to figure out what the head loss through the Oceans Motions valve is. Contact the manufacture if all else fails. For every pump there is a total dynamic head available. As the head pressure increases the total flow decreases. If the Ocean Motions valve acts like a venturi/eductor then be very carefull what pump you select, the most common eductors REQUIRE min 5 PSI and are designed for 10 PSI. To determine what PSI your pump will develope, take the total head and divide by 2.31.

As for my tank, I went so far as to lay out the piping not on total flow through the closed loop but velocity at the outlets. After some playing around and testing in the shop, I have decided on a outlet speed of 10-12 FPS. (feet per second) This may seem a little high, but remember that 10 fps at the nozzle is about 4 fps 6-8" away in the tank.
As an FYI, my new tank will have 3 closed loop pumps operating it.
A Dolphin Ampmaster 4000 will operate 24/7, alternating flow via a motorized ball valve.
A Dolphin Superampmaster 7500 will operate 8 out of every 12 hours via two 1.5" tank jets. ( just like the ones in your hot tub.)
A Dolphin AquaSea 5200 (3/4 HP high pressure pump) will operate 1 hour out of the 8 hour cycle above via two 1.5" tank jets.
When the tank jet pumps are operating, that tank seems like a jucuzzi. The tank jets are 8' apart at the ends of the tank even.

The OM does not act as an eductor, but you'll want to check on the total flow rate of the OM, I believe it is less than 4000gph, but I'm not sure if that would apply to a 4-port version.

That is a lot of flow ;)

Thanks for the info guys!

I tried to call Paul and he did call back. Unfortunatly I wasn't there and everytime I call him I just get the machine. That sucks. I hate playing phone tag.

I was considering a Sequence 1000 series, the 5000SEQ22. They put out 4200gph at 8 feet..... AZPonds is selling them for $300.

Scooterman,

I will check that site. Thanks..... I have an Ofna Colt. Which is their all wheel drive, on road racing car. Similar to an HPI Proceed. I was concidering a Hyper 7 but Ofna has horrible support. I can't get wheels for my Colt any more. That company spends way to much time making new kits and they can't provide parts for ones that they released 6 months prior. That is why my 1/8 buggy is going to be a Mugen. I also stopped carring their products in my shop for the same reason....... They do make a decent product though.....
