I just read the classifides section post started by tachimaster. I guess I missed the bus on that one as I am no longer and everyday lurker on this forum anymore, I had some genuine input I wanted to add to the mix and after reading I had discovered that the thread was closed for buisness....NEW THREAD TIME!!!

Eh, well to my point.

Like I stated above, I am no longer an everyday lurker on this forum mainly due to the classified section being changed. It was not the functionalitiy of the classifieds moreso the LOCATION of the LINK TO the classifieds. I might be wrong BUT I remember the forsale threads having to be accessed from the forums page NOT the reeffrontiers main page. As little as it may be, it definitly caused me to frequent the forums more overall (meaning all sections of the forums). Now I don't have to even scrool down on the main page I just click in the top right corner, glance and go on about my day. Having to actually access the forums page caused me to wander around in the forums section on a more regular basis, I feel the location of the link to the classifieds is not in a good location.

Also I noticed people talking about the inability to BUMP the classifieds to let the buyers know that the product is still for sale etc...

Has anyone thoght about an auto-delete function that deletes ALL posts to the classifieds after say a few weeks?? That way ANYTHING on the classifieds could be considered "new and fresh" that wouldn't take away from a users ability post a comment on there item saying "SOLD!" etc... If something has not been sold after a few weeks, make a new post to try and sell it again BAM!! to the top you go, it would force a revolving door of sorts, keep the classifieds neat and tidy, and help those would-be sellers from getting messages about items they had for sale 12 years ago that have been long gone (pretty extreme but you get the idea).

Thats was it... what do you all think??

Sorry John if the location of the button has caused you not to drop by RF. Although it has seemed to get you to post here? I would have to admit that button location was not real high on my list when we had to redesign the site and such. I guess I was coming at it from the opposite direction, as in folks were coming to the site to learn and share the hobby and then checking for the occasional deal. With links to the classifieds on every page I figured we were covered for peoples ability to get to it.

So you are saying I should auto delete everyones ad's?? Yea I am sure that would be a fun one to deal with.
Look users have the ability to simply hit a button when the item is sold, once they do that its deleted the next day. They can edit an ad, or delete it and start a new one for what ever reason they want, they dont need ME to do that for them.

If folks want to use RF for talking, learning, and sharing info about their hobby they will, if they want to just use the classifieds then they will. I could put up a hundred buttons or even play the mystery button placed somewhere is a thread and they will still do what they want. If you are saying you do not take part anymore in the forums because the main reason you did is that you had to scroll past post to find the classified section then really?? what was the main purpose of your visit?? Not that I really care everyone has their reasons, But really??

thanks

I'd also like to add that you can subscribe to the classifieds. You will get an email everytime an add is posted to the section that you subscribed to. There is also a watch feature that can be used as a direct link to an add that interest you. The new classifieds offer alot of options in comparison to the old forum format. If you use these options to your advantage they can work for anyone even better than the old forum format.

I would like to ask how to subscribe to the classifieds. I see where there is a subscription button but it says there are no open subscriptions at this time and I don't see where to add a subscription. Is it a paid subscription thing? If so, does it come with the premium membership? I think it would be nice to get an email with the ads instead of having to go look to see what new. I would only want to see this option as an automated thing though as I see all you guys are having to do enough to keep this place running as it does now. Thanks again for all your efforts. We use this site to it's fullest for learning, sharing and communication with friends and post regularly except for the last month or so because of the holidays. This would just be one more cool feature to add with email notification on the ads.

IMO the classified section is just right with the link button on the top of each page.

Personally I never just come here to look at the classifieds, if that was the case then I would think that most people who come and are just looking for a good deal don't have to waste anytime in the forums and just go right to the classifieds. Makes sense in a time management kind of way. If that makes sense. :D

eww when you are looking at an ad, if you look towards the top right side you will see a drop down menu called product options, from their just hover over the icons and it will tell you what you can do. It is here where you can subscribe, watch list, edit, mark it sold and so on.

Spellbound everyone comes to RF or uses Rf for different things, its all cool with me.

hope it helps

The button you see, that says there are no open subscriptions, means that you have not subscribed to anything. To do so, here are the steps, for both the forums, and the classifieds.

In the forums, there are 2 ways to subscribe to a particular thread.

1. When you reply to or start a thread, if you use the Go Advanced button, it'll take you to an advanced reply option. Under the Reply window, there are Additional Options. One of those options is to Subscribe. Check the box, next to Subscribe to this thread and then Click the drop down arrow, and chose how you'd like to subscribe.

2. In any thread, above the thread, there's a series of drop down arrows. One of these is called Thread Tools. If you click that drop down arrow, it'll give you an option to Subscribe. Then you tell it how you want your subscription notification handled.

Okay, now on to the Classified Subscriptions. When you're viewing an ad, in the upper right hand side of the ad, there's a drop down arrow called Product Options. If you click on this, the 4th option down is Receive Email Updates. Click on this and you're subscribed.

Also, when you make an add you say how long it is up for. I think the max is 90 days.

I guess if you wanted to keep stuff fresher, you could make the list time max a month and then repost.
Is there an option to repost an add say after 25 days if it hasn't yet sold to renew it?

I'm guessing everyone just posts their add for the max time of 90, but not sure.

Seems good to me anyway. One think that would be cool which has been mentioned before is showing a location in the index page. I plan on doing this myself by putting my location before the title of anything I list, but it would be cool if there was a way to automate it to get it done on all adds.

Anyway, I like em. Love the pictures. Just browsed through them all last night and not really sure what peoples issues are. Disliking change I guess

To subscribe to the classifieds is easy. Open the classifieds section. You will see both the equipment and livestock sections. DONT open them. Each one has a green check mark and an orange rss icon. Click on the green check mark for the section that you want to subscribe. To unsubscribe just click it again.
Once you subscribe you will get an email showing the new add that was just posted. There are all sorts of not so obvious features. Once you get them figured out you will see its much nicer than the old system.

Thanks Don. That's what I was wondering. Now I shouldn't have to go look to see if there are any new ads. I will be emailed when there is a new one. Now I can spend more time reading and learnin' this reef stuff. :D

I subscribed to get notifications in the livestock section, and this was the notification I got.

JOHNPEEZY does any of this help you out with your issues?? or does it still just boil down to the button location thing??

Well not really, no. I didn't have an issue to begin with, I just wanted to make a few suggestions.

I DID have a huge long winded post I was going to make earlier this morning but it was lost when I tried to submit it....
I'll do it again later.

When I read this I thought it was such a bad issue that it was keeping you from browsing the boards. On that button thing though I didnt have a button for it on the front page to start with but a few members asked for it so I did it for them. Buess thats back to the some will like it and some wont thing.

I'll do it again later.
Yea better way to keep it front and center

Look, no reason to be an ass about my suggestions.

I'm done with this site, I make a suggestion and its automaticly taken as me having an issue.

You guys are doing a fine job running this place into the ground with the changes being made as it is, your right you don't need my suggestions as the closed thread had suggested.

Reeffrontiers.com Site Info

mojoreefer there was no need to be a prick, sir. You are 100% the reason why I will no longer take part in this forum, your attitude remindes me of fecal material.

I didn't have a problem with the site, now I do. So I will not be back.

good bye
