Hello all,
I will be new to saltwater but I have developed a course for in marine science. The class wants me to house fish, starfish, urchins, mussels--alive. I was hoping to set up separate tanks with a larger pump system??
Any advice -am I off base with this idea.

science,

Are you looking for a cold water system to house local invertebrates? Are you thinking warm water animals? It makes a big difference in how you proceed. Who will do the maintenance? Students?

science lab setup

probably cold water. I just would like one pump system for many tanks.
Students will be monitoring tanks and recording observations on a large class chart.
Any good books for this too.
Also where is the best place to order healthy stock??

the conscientious marine aquarist is the best book I have ever used isbn 1-890087-02-5 by robert fenner. with cold water it may be more expensive to have a chiller on your system. Just a thought. You are doing a good thing here. The more people we have in this hobby the more understanding of the reefs we will have. That will lead to reprogation of our sick and dying reefs, and better maintence of the healthy ones. Glad your here. It is the right place to be. Steve

ScienceRules,

Make a trek to the valley and come see my system - 7 tanks off one pump with a geothermal cooler.

I can show you some of the tricks and traps of using gravity with multiple tank - Yep 7 tanks in series.
