for an Acrylic tank, I intend to clean it up, scrape the old coraline growth, and polish any scratches I find.

I saw mention of a vinegar bath????? is this recommended?

and cleaning off old coraline, and water marks, is there a best way to do so?

Hey Dave, the vinegar will disolve the coraline algae and most water spots. Do this before scraping and will help to avoid further scratching of acrylic.

Vinegar baths are great for cleaning most everything. I clean all my older equipment with it, as well as pumps every few months.

can i clean my skimmer body this way, if so how much vinegar to water mix to soak it in. Thanks Larry

Awesome I tell ya I love this site LOL I can learn and get great tips
I did want to know about any Acrylic scratch removers.

rinsed out tank tonight (still had the film from being broke down and emptied, and the residual sand on the bottom)

so far no obvious scratches, but lots of coraline to remove

If you want a miracle coralline remover for acrylic pm adam (myteemouse) or do a search he recently posted a product that works in conjunction with magnetic algae removers. Works incredibly on taking coralline off acrylic in a FRACTION of the time and it was CHEAP. I saw this at his house and it was impressive!

noworries thanks, I did catch that thread and bookmarked the site :) does that work on dry tanks as well? I thought that was for within a full up and running tank?

From what I saw with Adam it would be worth your while to fill the tank up with water and use it. You will spend more time draining it than cleaning it, haha.

Dave,

I have the dozer and sleeve pocket from mighty magnets...works great, but IMO, the sleeve looks like a doobie pad you can get a grocery or drug store but only thicker/stronger.

Ill have to get me one sooner than later :) I am actually having fun with this. was looking at the holes that are drilled currently, the overflows and wondering what endeavor I may attempt LOL

Ok a couple Pics just cleaned it up with Vinegar....so far a couple very minor scratches noted, and some swirls that all look simple to manage :)

the BIG ass stand and canopy LOL 1 door alone must weigh 30lbs.....Think Ill make the sides of stand open up, make soem removable panels. for access should I need better, that and 2nd sump I already discovered wont fit thru front doors.
