Does anybody have any suggestions for cleaning a CPR overflow? I noticed mine was kinda gunky, so I ran my skimmer brush briefly down on the outflow side of it where I could actually reach and watched my water go from clear to incredibly nasty almost immediatly.

I'm sure its functioning as a lovely nitrate sink with the crap on the inside of the overflow, and it would be nice to get it out.

The drawback is that its very very difficult to actually remove my overflow. I suppose it would be possible, but even once I do that I'm a little unsure as to how to get all the gunk out.

Anybody have some suggestions or personal experience?

I use to blast what I could with a hose to get up in the "nooks and crannies" whenever I took the overflow off of the tank, but other than that, I always just used a toothbrush and did what I could. Kinda hard like you said to really get up in there good...:)

pour vinagar into it

i use vinagar than flip it upside down so the vinagar is in the hard to reech area and let it sit for a few hours than dushe it out with a hose

Dylan, you are welcome to come over and get my "automatic overflow cleaner". Actually, it is a handful of tiny snails that go in there and eat the stuff. They are "itty bitty" and eat like pigs :D

well, when my Cpu mess's up i punch it.

but when my crp gets dirty, i blast it with water or air and and let the nasty go to the sump
