Clown Scratching on Rock!!!

I just noticed my male ocellaris clown scratching himself on my live rock. He appears to have a small white patch behind one of his fins. I've had ICH before but I knew why. My water parameters are perfect right now. I test very regularly. Almost every other day. My PH is where it should be and I add everything you can immagine to make the water perfect. He hasn't had any stress that I know of lately and he is eating fine and still frolicks around the tank. This is upsetting!! The last time one of my fish had ICH it was very sick but in another tank and managed to get back to normal. He hasn't been exposed to ICH before. What could have caused this??? Any suggestions??

good question johnny. you really shouldn't be dosing anything you can't test for. please let us know what your water params are and in the meantime it would be wise to remove the fish from the main tank and place it in quarantine so you can treat it.

He may have been exposed to ich at sometime that you don't know about unless you reared him yourself. Many things known and unknown can trigger an attack of ich. But overall i agree with Lexi who agrees with johnny. My favorite way to treat ich in the absence of a Q-tank is to use garlic and cleaner shrimp or wrasses.

My suggestion would definately be a Q tank. If you dont have one- now is a great time to get one. You need to break the life cycle of the ich. All you need is a small tank, heater, small flourescent light. small water changes will keep your water clean and you can siphonthe cysts off the bottom when they drop off the host. hth

if it is ich? which it does't sound like it is if it is a "patch of white". if it was ich you would see white little specs that look like sugar grains. If it is ich, clowns are tough little guys and well kick ich easy if you feed them and keep the water QUALITY good, and that doesn't just mean parims. What is everything you can add???? If it is a patch it could be a fungas of some kind. If it is keep feeding and make sure your water quality is good and see if it steadies out after a few days and he well probably rid himself of it. You should have a quarantine tank, bb, little pieces of pvc for hiding a few pieces of live rock for biological action for waste products, but it needs to be seasoned so as the chems you add won't kill all the good stuff off. I strongly believe in UV and it well kill most of this bad stuff or greatly help get rid of the bad guys.
