Jus tap water. I have a tight budget now, lost my job an only have a part time one. I needed a hobby to clear my head, now i think it just clouded it worsse. Is tap water a huge no no?

Yea tap water has alot of stuff in it you really don't want in your tank. from chlorine to metals. It will cause algae to grow also.

Could i make a RO/DI filter for my water? Or is thier a inexpensive alturnative. Prolly not knowing my luck. But i will search the diy in this forum anyway. I prolly shoulda stuck with fish but corals just so beatiful.

Im not sure what im doing wrong but when i try pushing classifieds i either get articles or the home page. Theits links covering the classifieds. Or im really computer dumb. I'll keep lookn and trying. I think i figured how to post pics. If everythings right i can tomarrow when my lights come on

So lets see if this works, thier should be a pic of my tank

I'll have to up my posts thiers nothing on craigslist. Yea and i deffinatly need new tests. I been reeding an yea i been neglecting jus by not checking everything. Things are looking better with new water. Im pissed i killed my clam for no reason. Hope everything else pulls thro. They should be happy now that im looking for the right stuff

Well im doing my small water changes and being patient. I think every thing else should be alright. The one that worries me is i thought was a flower pot but i believe its a califlower pot after looking at pics. Its shrunk and the polyps havent been out. What a heartbreaking lesson in prevenitive maintance.

why do you want sand in your sump? if its not a true DSB then the only purpose is.....well good for nothing. strive to block and trap nothing so junk doesn't break down and increase nitrates.

Thanks, im glad i put a pic of my fuge in thier. So i will take out the sand. Did you or anyone notice any other flaws or places i could improve?

from the pics maybe open up your rock scape a bit to allow some better flow. think tunnels, shelves, pass throughs. i thnk there is a website called "rate my tank" or something, where you can get ideas.

without going back and reading...have you mentioned a full equiptment list yet?

Yea, i got to koralia pumps, one at the surface n one going into the rock work. I have an urchin protien skimmer. An ehium return pump, and a 6 bulb t5 light. I thank you for the ideas and help. Im open for any suggestions. Since i know less then i thought,n i new i was a novice. Thanks agian

Doug, sorry to hear that you've had some trouble. I'm just now reading through your thread but it seems like you've been given good advise and with patients your tank will straighten around. I know its upsetting when there are losses, most of us have experienced that on some level. You are learning from it though and that will make you a better aquarist. BTW flower pot is a very finicky coral and not the easiest to keep even when everything is perfect.

Well im going to make a trip to milwaukee to get new tests, are their more acurate ones or ones that are recommended? The yuck is on the surface so i got a bunch of 20 gal. ready for when i get down in the morning. Should i lessen the day time, till i get things undercontrol? Or jus keep on water changes. Once i get tthe test hopfully i can see where i went of course. Im just confused

kpiotrowski, I removed the sand from my sump. Also I moved my rock work around to allow more flow to go thro it.Thank you and everyone for the support!! I now do diligent WC's. All my stuff Came back. Thought I would let everyone know there help was utilized, so more didn't parish. THANKS MILLIONS REEF FRONTIERS!!!!
