Hey all I am just wondering if anyone can think of a way to convert 2 55 gal tanks in one sump system. I was told that drilling the sides of the tanks will work but I am not sure how to do it or if it would work.

I was also thinking of taking two of the longer sheets of glass out of each one and putting them together that way I am just concerned that would not work well with the braces at the top and bottom of the tank.

Can any one help me with this one?

Are the two 55's glass? I don't think it's recommended to drill tempered glass, just check on it. If you can yes I would drill and connect, one for equipment, and the other as a refugium perhaps?!

If you are using overflow boxes now, you can just plumb the output of each of those together into one sump. If the tanks are already close to each other, even easier. You'll want to put a 45 degree elbow at the bottom of each overflow, pointing towards each other. extend this with PVC another
12" or so...now put another 45 degree elbow on each end of the pipe pointing towards each other...if you did this correctly, all you need is a T and 2 pieces of PVC to plumb together...the single output of the T should run into your sump. I would use a T that is a bigger size in the middle like 1"x1"x1/5" or 2" so that your flow is not disrupted. if your confused let me know....
