I got some frags in last thursday, sadly the one i wanted to see open the most has ended up going nuclear on me.

It was a pretty well established zoo frag. Small polyps. It never did open though, by friday night it had developed a white milky "goo" around the polyps, and today the polyps are falling off in the water current and exposing a nasty blue/green almost rotten looking live rock underneith.

I have written off this frag, and its comming out of the tank asap, but i want to know if i left it in the tank too long? will this attack my other corals? Is it anything really? or just how zoos die? Everything else i got is open and happy, i am kinda sad about this one though.

alot of times they have nudibranchs eating them, then they get fungus or bacterial infections.
purchasing a coral dip is always a good idea, you can also use lugol's iodine as a dip.
it sounds like the colony you have is toast though :(

coral dip is a liquid that you mix with r.o. water, you then treat every coral that you buy with the "dip" by putting the coral in the liquid for about 15-20 minutes, most bacterias and fungus are killed and not added to your system this way. there are several different name brand coral dips but seemingly most people prefer using "lugol's iodine solution". which can be purchased at most saltwater stores.
some people even quarantine all of their corals in a seperate tank to make sure they are healthy, disease free, and pest free before adding to your system. an excellent idea, imo.
