With a tank I recently bought there were several 5 gallon buckets of very dry and sun-bleached rock and coral.

Would putting these into an existing, fully cycled tank cause any problems?

Thanks,
Vicki

no. its not like its uncured rock where it has to cycle after the die off. just clean off all the "dead" material and you are good to go

As long as it never had med added to the tank with the rock you will be fine. Just wash it off good.

Thanks for the quick replies.
I figured it was okay, but it's always safer to ask....

The rock was stored in his backyard for years and has been in my garage for the past couple of months. It's very clean already, but I'm going to wash it thoroughly and even soak it (at least) over night.

Thanks again,
Vicki

i would definately give it a good cleaning or rinsing!!!what kind of rock is it???

It will be very well cleaned. :) I like things to be clean around here.

As to what kind it is, I really don't have a clue. It is reef rock. I know it isn't Fiji or Tonga branch. It's really nice looking with lots of cavities and holes. There's also quite a few coral skeletons which are quite large and unique. I'll have to give more thought to the skeletons before putting that in though.

There's two more buckets still out in my garage that I haven't even started looking through yet.

Vicki
