Hi everyone,

I am pretty new to this hobby and I have a 30 gallon Oceanic tank. I have a Royal Gramma, Rainford Gobby, cleaner shrimp, blue chrommie, two nasarrius's (hope I spelled these right), and up till this morning I had a live clown fish.

The levels in my tank are: nitrite 0, nitrate 20, Ca .07, Kh .45, salt hydromoter reading was 1.022.

Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Ron Andrews

Hey Ron- You CA and kH readings are suspect- Calcium is usually measured in PPM, and is in the 200 (low) to 400+ (normal) range. kH readings have several scales, but .45 is low on all of them. Can you post the units, and which test kits you are using?

None of the above would have an effect on the clownfish though- How long did you have him, and any symptoms?

How long has the tank been setup?

I have had the clown fish about 3 weeks. I have not seen any Sx of stress. I am using the Salifert test kits for Alk/KH and Ca. 8.8 KH value in dKH, Alk at approx. 3.15 in meq/L and Ca 475 concentration in ppm. The tank has been set up for about 5 weeks. I upgraded from a 6 gallon tank. I have noticed white specks on my two large tiger snails. I have also added a Aqua-Tech Power Filter which has a bio-filter.

Sorry to hear about the clown. That's quite the bio-load on a 5 week old tank tho. you rtank is probably still trying to get settled in, so kick back for a while and let things proceed. How much live rock do you have, and was it fully cured when you put it in?
Was there an ammonia reading at all?
Keep us updated!!

I have about 23 lbs of live rock , fully cured, that I bought it at Aquatic Dreams. I am not sure about the amonia levels but this morning I found my Royal Gramma died too. I am watching the temp more closely with a digitam therm. it was at 82.5 today with the lights on. I will check it in the am to see where it is at.
