I just wanted to take the opportunity to thank John for having all of us out to his place to see his tank. John has a well thought out tank design that is spectacular and has a lot of potential.
Besides the great food, John did a wonderful job explaining how he has incorporated water flow into his system. Following that discussion we had a great time sharing ideas and information. I found this meeting to be one of the greatest I have attended in awhile. Thanks to everybody for attending!

Next month I will be selling a Rose Anemone. Let me know if anybody is interested. I bought the original from Kevin at Aquatic Dreams perhaps two years ago. It has divided once already and this was the second division. I will maintain two for my clown fish. Mine have found a nice spot at the opposite end of the tank from the SPS and have stayed put. Oh, mine get about 2-4 inches in diameter.

Joel,
So the topic of your meeting was Circulation in Reef Tanks? I wish I could have made it. I would love to hear anymore you have to say about the December Meeting.
Ed

Ed,
Well we talked about the usual benefits of circulation: oxygen circulation, waste removal, feeding, and increased calcification rates with improved flow. Skimmers and water falls or overflow pipes add oxygen by the air mixing with the water. Some of the problems with too much flow include damage to the coral. By too much flow I mean direct flow. Brent and some others said that corals have been show to have 60% increased calcification rates with higher flow.

John’s tank is a bear bottom with the flow designed to keep detritus in the water column and pushed to the front of the tank. John uses a closed loop system with a Ocean’s Motions valve (not sure of the name of the regulator) to alternate from two sea swirls and two under the rock water exits. This makes a barrel role effect pushing the detritus to the front middle of the tank for easy removal. Two Tunze Streams alternate the flow back and forth from right to left. I think I am forgetting a few outputs here somewhere:confused: . Anyway, it was a neat system. One pump running a closed loop from the basement and another running a return from the basement sump. Neat setup. I will have to see if I can post some pictures.
:D

Wow, very good meeting!

Thanks Joel,
Sounds like another good very informitive meeting. If I know Brent or Kevin they had a article stating the facts from a well known Expert. I would love to have a copy of that if possible. I reget not seeing you guys talk about this in person. But if someone has the time I would love to learn and share it with group in Tri-cities.

Hey ED!

I also did some speaking on the subjects and have some notes somewhere I could type up for you. I also have a couple of power point presentaions of the last couple of meetings I spoke at. If you would like I could mail them to you as well. Unless something else comes up. The next meeting we will probably continue about phytoplangton and how to culture it. It was preceded with its benefits and interaction in the marine tank and will be followed by a how build your own culturing center....

Greg,
I would take any information you are willing to share. I would love to have you down here for a meeting again soon.
Thanks, I appreciate all the help you have given me this year,
Sincerely,
Ed:)
