Mine does that also. Give it some small shells to carry around. I am to understand that when they are covered with things they are happy. He's a pretty one.

iPisces, #1 I do not want to hijack this thread and turn it into a debate, and number 2 I am not criticizing you or your comment as you are one of my favorite people on this whole board, you always have such nice things to say to people, and always welcome the newbies, I genuinely think your the cats meow. That being said, you made a comment that has been something I have struggled with since getting into this hobby, "when they are covered with things they are happy". Variations of this are, "clowns are happy when they have a nem, my acro is happier with the new LED's, my tang is happier in his new tank, my clam is happier in this or that spot, the list goes on forever. We reefers tend to anthropomorphize our livestock to the hilt, and yet, who hasn’t seen a fish respond in a way that makes us think they are experiencing true emotions. I know that no matter what scientists say, I believe that animals like dogs and cats experience emotion, my dog is "happy" when i come home from work, and yet i wonder, does this extend to my fish, my inverts, my corals? I am curious what other reefers think, do you think of your livestock as being happy or sad?
Again, no disrespect intended, just wanted to hear what others think.

Well, you could start a new thread in the general discusion forum and reference these statements.
I will reply to it.

have to run out the door to work, but I will start a thread on it later, it will be interesting to see peoples comments.

My tuxedo urchin has covered himself with waving hand anthelia. You can't see him at all. I just look for the moving coral lol. He seems very "happy".

I can sy that my fish get happy. I show them the food jar every night before i feed them. I will "walk" them back and forth the 6' of space they have. he responce is almost like my pitbulls responce whe he gets a treat. Its interesting and gratifying at the same time. They see the jar, swim in a "pack" up to it, get all excited and swim around eachother, damsels, tangs, gobys, doesnt seem to matter. Very entertaining.

Love the tuxedo -

I had a decorator crab years ago that I absolutely loved.

While I don't think fish have emotions, I refer to the residents of my tank as "happy" if they are looking healthy and behaving as they should. I have definitely "pissed off" a couple of my corals in the past, and I know that my fishies aren't wagging their tails at me when I tap my nails on the tank before feeding time - and they don't do tricks, but they take a considerable amount of care and $, so I wonder how much of the anthropomorphism is for our benefit rather than theirs :)
