I was looking for a members ID using the Members List and was absolutely astonished at how many members there are on the list. I noticed that many of them had not "visited" since 07 or 08, and so i was wondering, if someone hasnt visited the site in over 2 years, whats the point of keeping the membership? Deleting would make browsing thru the member list quicker, and it might make some indexing and website management issues easier.
There may of course be downsides which I havent thought of, I just wondered if anyone had thought of it before..

I understand that there is an option somewhere that allows people to be onsite and not show up, so perhaps the "last visit" thingy isnt accurate. hmm "thingy" sounds awfully technical doesn't it? Don't be intimidated by my technoprowess.. lol

There might be some people just taking a break for a while. :)
In fact I just saw a member making a post last week, that I haven't seen here since last year.

I haven't been here that long, but have seen revivals from people who were out of the hobby for three years. It's also nice to have them on here in case you see a thread where they have a similar problem to you, you could then follow their posts and see if there was a solution in a later thread.

Also... If we delete a member with alot of posts, those posts which might have good information gets lost. Hell, they dont even let us edit out posts after like an hour, let alone delete a member with 1k posts and bam, 1k posts/threads gone.

all good reasons

OK, those are all good reasons not to delete, had no idea it would delete their old posts!! That wouldnt be good.
I also found the Advanced Search Feature in Member list, so it isnt really necassary, it is easy enough to filter out members who havent posted in X # of days using the Advanced Search. Should have looked more before posting the suggestion..

There is a list on the home page that shows everyone that is currently logged in. Its there and expanded if you havent fiddled with your layout.

Don

Okay stupid question time. I used to have it but can't find the switch to change the layout. I like being able to see who is online but don't know how I changed it. Where is the option located?

Click on top left of this page (the top banner), it will take you to the home page, then to the left you will see the full list.
