Just changed all filters and DI resins on my RO DI system and was wondering if the resins for the DI chamber would be something to run in a mesh bag inside a canister filter. Would they do anything or be a benefit/bad thing for the tank?

So I take it purigen is about the best resin to run in a system? Or what would be the best in addition to a high grade carbon?

Carbon alone is fine. I dont know anything about purigen or if it even does anything in saltwater. Maybe PM boomer.

The other problem with DI resin in a tank is that it would take out everything - good and bad. Even if it did last a while, it'd totally mess up your water parameters.

I ditched carbon 6 months ago and run only Purigen now. I don't see any difference in water parameters (<1.0ppm nitrates), but it's nice to only have to change it out every couple months versus every couple weeks for carbon. It's also rechargeable.

Leaving any media in for a couple of month just makes it a biofilter and pretty much worthless for its intended purpose.

Thanks. I'll keep that in mind as I'm saving money on carbon, saving time replacing the carbon, and not seeing any detrimental effects. If it's worthless, so be it.

Dont use anything at all, save even more time and money. Leaving media, any media for months is accomplishing the same thing. A hand full of sand would do exactly the same thing after it has gone biological.

Purigen is fine to use and works well. It is not as good as a good grade of GAC but is nice sup to it. Second, I stand behind Don' statement on going biological. Media of these types, Purigen , GAC, etc, should be removed and cleaned/recharged or replaced ever couple of weeks or every week. Most media is going biological in a couple of weeks.

Does the filter guys sell GAC more that just the $8 baggies?

I havent seen it on their site but I think they bag it themselves so wouldnt hurt to ask. I like the bags they are portioned perfectly for the amount of carbon that I like to use.
