Boomer,

I'm using K additive and want to dose with a dosing pump. Its nearly impossible to get the 5ml dosage with a pump short of making my own piston pump. Can I just dilute it with rodi 9 to 1 and increase the dosage to 50ml?

Thanks
Don

Yes, you can dilute it to anything you want. A 5 ml "K" concetnration will be the same as 50 ml concetration just more water and less additive / ml. Net result, the amount of "K" going into the tank will be the same.

So next questions, why are you dosing Potassium ? Or is that "K" a Kent additive ?

OK, just so you know K is like 380 ppm in NSW. On the avg most seasalts are low in K buy 100 ppm

Last week Zeovit released their new K test kit. I do not know how accurate it is. You can get it from ProlineAquatics.

Yes, I already have it. Its pretty close, I had IO tested it was 258 with the test kit and my eyes I got 250.

Don we are having a dicussuoin on K on the chem forum on RC right now.

Ok nice on the test kit

Thanks I'll check it out. Chem forum right? I was going to play with the potassium bicarbonate I have but need to back down my ca reactor since my alk is already at 11. Maybe make a two part (ca chloride and potassium bicarb) and turn the reactor way down for a few weeks.

what role does K play in the reef tank? Is there something about the Zeovit system that requires potassium dosing? I'll wade through the RC thread when I have time...but in the meantime, can somebody give me the bare bones of this?

From what I can gather is no one really knows. Not really a zeo thing although pohls is the maker of K addives and test. The only thing Ive tested so far was ca my reactor output which is about 20% higher than my tank. I use dead coral (schuran) media so I'm assuming the coral do use K. I dont know of any studies at show at what saturation K become a bennefit. For me its a experiment on my own tank.

It is used by plants and corals. They claim the zeolites remove allot of the K. And depleted K can lead to poor coral healthy. Corals and plants adsorb it from the water.

For your reading pleasure MIke :)

Thanks Boomer and DonW...:D

Boomer, your link of "pleasureable" reading....well, it made my eyeballs hurt with all the chemistry stuff and big words...

I did however, find the last part before the references pretty interesting, but off topic for this thread...I'll post about it in a seperate thread, hopefully you smart people can help me wade through it a bit...:D
