Ok so since my tank is decommissioned. If I do my own rock, is it bad if I let it cycle and leach out in my tank? Then when I'm ready to start my tank back up just take the rock out and deep clean the jbj?. Because I can afford the diy rock this is my first project to accomplish my over all project

HTC EVO

Yes you can do it that way.
It will take anywhere from 4-12 weeks to cure the DIY rock. It wont harm the tank.
You will need to keep up on the water changes. At least twice a week, minimum.

i just cured my diy rock in my 150 gallon. the one problem i ran into as the salt breaks down it put a crusty film on the glass and had to scrape it off all the time. i would do it in buckets or put it in a 55 gallon drum. in the past i have used a 55 gallon drum. drilled a hole 2 inches from botton. put a bulk head and a ball valve on the outside. makes for easy water changes. hope this helps you.
