Thought this link was pretty neat! I've never built a wood stand (mine is steel) but this generator is really cool and it's free! You type in your dimensions and you get a full layout plan for a diy stand using 4x4's, the entire construction process and even the finishing work with estimated costs and a shopping list. Wanted to pass it along for someone that might be interested!

Excellent! I added it to the resource library!

I used that for a 50G breeder stand. It works decently well, but consumes a giant amount of space under the stand using 4x4 lumber for anything smaller than a 75 or so.

(I probably still wouldn't follow their plan for a 75 either, there'd be no way to get the sump under there.)

Seems like they go a bit overboard with their stands. But I'm sure they have to so that somebody doesn't sue them if the stand fails.

I've only seen cedar (expensive and not sure if it is good around fish/corals) and treated (definitely not good around fish and corals). I'll look closer next time.

The stuff I got at Home Depot was untreated and definitely not cedar. Not sure what exactly it was, but it was much cheaper and wasn't as soft of a wood.
