LOL Todd,

Sorry to say I cut them a bit undersize for your wants and needs. But you are more than welcome to the cut offs. 1 piece @ 5 1/2'' X 96'' and 1 piece @ 5 1/2'' X 60''. (maybe after the build)Ya never know

Not to bad of a yeild for this build.

Tank size is now set in STONE
5'5'' X 3'9''X30'' tall = 309.78 gal

Almost six feet long by almost four feet deep by 30" tall should be an awesome tank. Looking forward to seeing this tank progress.

I have made a huge mistake!!!

It is 4' 5'' long X 3' 9'' deep X 30'' tall

Good thing I measure 3 times and cut once. LOL

I read your reply, and said to myself " Its not just shy of 6 feet"
I need to start proof reading.

Ya, I was thinking about that and realized the math didn't work out with only two sheets of material.

I can see another road trip to Dave's house in our future!

LOL Dave,
You know you northerners are always welcome to stop by with out an invite.

And the Seattleittes, and the southenders.
Heck for that matter Spinner you can stop by too. Cause I got your Peppie right here!

I was going to wait until I got back from Maui to start building this tank, but the thought of knowing the acrylic is just sitting in the shop got the better of me. LOL
My work bench is not wide enough and a tad bit high for building this tank, so a correct size and height bench was first on the list.
I unbolted the small bandsaw from its mobile bench and modified it to work for this build.
It is a bit narrow at the base and would tip over if anything on top got off centered.
I widened the feet, but held them up just a smidge so the wheels would still work.

The top is 1/2 plywood covered with a sheet of faced MDF

The table is about 3'' larger all the way around than the size of the tanks foot print

My table saw and router table are positioned as so I can not mill a 30'' wide X 54'' long panel. So I will use 1/2'' MDF to make a pattern to size the front, back, and sides of the 3/4'' material. I will mill the edges of the acrylic with a 1/2'' flush cutting bit in the router.

All the pieces have been rough cut to 1/2'' oversize. I clamped the acrylic to the MDF pattern.

Then I ran 4 strips of tape on the edge of the MDF pattern

I ran the router down the edge, then removed 3 layers of the tape and took another pass with the router. Removed the last piece of tape and finished the edge with one final pass.

This will give me a weldable edge.
The last step for this sheet is to cut back the paper about 1 1/4'' to expose the acrylic for welding.

4 more panels to prep. Top, 2 sides, and the back. The bottom is prepless. LOL

Well now Dave, that just takes a whole bunch of fun away..... I was expecting at least two pages of you getting razzed about not cutting anything yet while second & third guessing your layout plans... Oh well GREAT JOB as usual my friend and maybe a road trip sooner than I thought to help you move this bad boy around.

Cheers, Todd

Can you say..

WOODY!!!!

I saw that pallet in the bed of the pickup and I was, how in the heck is he going to build an aquarium out of a pallet? But then again, I have seen the fruits of your talent. HA HA, after all, it is a pallet.....right?

LOL .
I could probably pull it off. They do make water proof glue. But I am afraid it would have to be a look down tank.

Well the long weekend is a great opportunity to focus on getting this tank assembled.
I finished prepping all the edges with an MDF templet.
Now it is time to weld some pieces together.

Left side first

You can see where the the solvent has oozed out of the seam, That will help reduce the chance of bubbles, and a good indicator that I have not starved the seam.

While I was waiting for that seam to get bite, I worked on the top euro-brace.
Rough cut with a skill saw

I made a 1/2 templet for the router to guide along, once this side is cut I will flip the templet to the other side

Nellie will NOT be happy with the acrylic snow. I ran a roundover bit around the opening, (top and bottom)

A couple of hours later I was able to setup the other side panel and weld it in place.

I will let this set for 4 - 5 hours. flip it over on to the front panel and weld it up.
I hope to have that done by bedtime tonight. That will give the seams plenty of time to cure before I trim the ends with the router.

Yea, I had to get out the snow blower, (garden rake) Nellie was worried it would get in the mower. ( OMG )

If It is wet by Jan. I will be tickled pink.

I got a couple of pics of the seams. The first pic shows the ONLY bubbles in either of the seams

Can you see them? About 2/3 up from the bottom. I can live with that.

Over all they both turned out great

I just finished flipping it over. The front panel will be welded tonite and dry by tomorrow. Then a bit of flush cutting and then the top will go on.
Stay tuned , it will look like a tank by Sun. nite
