Anyone has a DIY vacuum? I have a maxi with a hose clamped on it & the other end I tie to the sump drain where I put a sock & dump it in there. I was looking for better ways to simplify this without being a hassle, something I can turn on, suck up everything & get out done:D
IDEAS??? PICKS a plus cause I'll need them!

Sorta how I do it now but no quick connect, i hold the PH in my hand with a short tube on the suction & suck it into the sock like that, thought maybe I should maybe try the ph inside the sock & just use the suction into the sock but I guess you would need to prime it, I'll try that in a few a see how it works.

I dont use a ph. I just stick the hose over one of the cl oulets for a second. Thats enough to start the siphon.

Output is a 3/4" Loc-line, more harm than good would be done most probably.

I keep a 2 foot snowflake eel in one of my sumps.
His swimming around keeps the sump almost spotless.

Defeats the purpose of my sump, everything collects in the sump, If I did this it would put it AL back into the main tank, which I never have to vacuum.

I couldnt get my sump to siphon into a bucket so I just drained it and used the shop vac.

I didn't want to drain the sump just suck up the detritus that collects there & be done with it, all the stuff from the main tank goes to the sump & stays there.

I kept a 75 gal turtle tank (with 2 turtles) for quite a few years. Fresh water tanks can get quite DIRTY especially with 2 turtles!

Anyways ... the sump kept getting REAL nasty even with a filter sock (fed by the overflow) so I just stuck a pump in the sump and plumbed it so that it dumped into the filter sock.

This is like a constant vacuum ... I also attached a UV sterilizer inline too.

Ever since then the sump stayed clean as a whistle.

What did you come up with?

Still using a PH connected to a hose & just pump the detritus back into a sock, nothing fancy, seem like the is the easiest way.
