Do you know if AEFWs eat....

Help Support Reef Aquarium & Tank Building Forum:

Just thought I post on my results so far.
I've stripped the 120 down of acros and use the opportunity to reaquascape and make the tank less of a reef wall. I gave it a slope so it is more "maintanance friendly". I like the way it looks but want more acros in it.:) Everything is in my crowded little 40 breeder and doing well after the second dip. Belive it or not, alot of my colonies (the torts) are doing better under the newer 10Ks. I new my 14Ks in the 120 were old, but wow. So far nothing is browning and everthing seems to extend its polyps and act normally after about 15 minutes back in the tank. I only found a few AEFWs on the frag tank colonies that were worst hit. Nothing came off of any corals from the 120. Here are a couple pics. Ill post a befor and after so anyone reading this can see what AEFWS will do to your display even if you dont lose colonies.
Also, I like excuses to post pics of my tanks. Believe it or not, I had to add about 20pounds of LR to the tank.

Hey Duane - I love it! it still has lots of caves and crevaces which is very eye appeling and as you mentioned it's not as close to the front glass which makes it a lot more functional too. that big piece of tonga in the upper left is veryyyyyyy cool!

I bet you can't wait till you kick these AEFWs for good and can move everythign back. :D

Question:what are you going to do in to make sure you don't get these guys in the future? couple weeks QT & Dips on all corals I assume? What will you be using as your dip in the future?

Yes I am interested in what dip everyone uses as well. Defintly doing a QT tank with the next setup.

In the future I intend to dip every new comer with interceptor and fluke tab.I may skip the fluke tabs and follow the interceptor with iodine instead. I like the thought of treating the coral for strange illnesses. Last winter I lost a blue chewbaca (extremely hairy mille) to a strange cotton fungus. Little did I know, an iodine dip would have cured it.
New additions will stay in the frag tank and after five days I will give them another fluke dip to inspect for AEFWs. If things check out, the coral will go to its new home. I wont go so crazy as to QT for a month but a double dip is better than nothing.
I like to live a little bit on the edge still. Besides, I have no life. A plague like this gives me something to do until late hours of the night. I like it..

Not!
