here is what I have new tank 40lbs live sand 17lbs live rock that was fully cured and encrusted with coarlline alge from an established system. I only filled it three quarters full and am waiting still for fog to clear so I can see what im doing before adding the rest of my live rock. but its only been 4 days and there is a pink or purple algae or so it seems spreading on the silicone joints but not the glass just the silicone not running any lights yet they wont be here till tue.. so the only light it gets is from a north facing window and a small amount of light from an hps porch light.

I had the same stuff growing in my tank as well...it's not coraline, though it is some type of algae...scrape it off it comes off super easy. My snails took care of most of it in my tank.

I was kind of think that woud be a little fast. so the snails will hadle it when I get them in there

this is the best I can do for a pic 2011-05-01_19-19-18_795.jpg

try to tackle it before it gets out of control if it is cyno, looking forward to seeing your tank once you get your light and rocks added!

so do I just just want to keep scraping it off as it shows up? I cant wait to see it one its all set up either added some more rock this morning and stirred up the sand again so I am waiting again for it to clear to see what the rock looks like... alot of waiting in this hobby. I almost have all the rock in now its realy hard to try and set it up and make it look natural im sure I will be moving some of it around a few more time

Yea, alot of patience needed in this hobby LOL! On the cyno, you can allow it to grow a bit for a few days and then remove what you can by siphoning it out of the tank. It uses excess nutrients in your water column for it's growth so as it binds them up you will export it out of your tank by removing it. It will continue to grow back as long as its needs are met so just keep exporting it out of your tank. As the tank matures and things start to level out, it should eventually stop growing. It's all a aprt of the cycling process so don't get too discouraged as we all go through it. You just want to make sure you aren't over feeding or overstocking the tank, you are staying on top of water changes and you are using ro/di water unless the water you are using has been tested and was found suitable for aquarium use. Alot of the time people use tap water that has a lot of nitrates and phosphates in it so all they are doing is fueling the algae to grow which you want to avoid. :)

I only use ro/di dont plan on adding any live stock for around 3-4 weeks depending how things test out not gona try and hurrry on this..
