im doing some planning for something around a 120gal. sps reef that i will *hopefully* be setting up some time near summer. Nothing (even tank size, but most likely 120) is really set in stone yet (i am still trying to convince my dad to help me pay for this gig LOL)... Im gonna use a faux sandbed and i want the tank to be acrylic (maybe IAP if i can afford the coast 2 coast)...Sump will be about 60 gal. (48x18x18)...probably will try to incorporate some kind a fuge...

so, i have a qeustion about lighting. should i do two 250w 10K XM DE's with VHO or two 250w 10K XM DE with a 20K bulb (recommendations?) in the middle? there will be 2 fans in the canopy.

will a MR-1 beckett skimmer be enuff (it says its rated for 175)

for calc. i am going to use the myreefcreations CR-1 reactor. i hope that will do the job?

for closed loop, will a amp3000 be overkill? (i know nikki uses one for her 120) I want to use a MBV, but its kinda pricey. Are there any alternatives?

Is there anything else i forgot?

thanks for all your help :)

Hiya T-reef. 10k and 20k's are a nice combo for usable light for corals so i would go that route. The 3000 would be fine for a closed loop, you can always trottle it back a bit if you feel its to much. Alturnative to MBV are the Ocean motions unit, Sea swirls or oscelators.

imho, i prefer the one with VHO. If not, how are you going to solve the dusk/dawn effect... Not that its really that critical...

What do you think?

thanks guys,
are the DE's really better than SE's? i was thinking about a MRC or G-series skimmer...wut do you think?
thanks
