whats the best/ easyist way to dose calc and alk ? two part, drip limewater, ex...? and what is the best brand. i have a 10gl nano, some softys, zoas, and just added two sps. thanks for the help
I use Salifert or Elos, depending which ones I can get my hands on.
i think he carries Salifert, but not sure.
Both local places, Kevin and Barbie, carry Salifert. I think Barbie may also carry some of the Elos line. These are the 2 test kits you'll want to use, as Tyler said. Also, as mentioned, you need to determine your tank's demand for Ca and Alk. At this point, with mostly soft corals and Zoanthids, and 2 SPS, your demand will be quite low. As the 2 SPS grow larger, as coralline algae starts to grow, etc, your demand will go up.
Test over a 3 day period, each day. Then figure out your daily average. Keep in mind that this average can and will change, as your tank changes, due to additional corals, growth of corals, growth of Coralline algae, addition of clams...etc....
As for supplements, you can make your own, to save a lot of money. In my signature, there's a link to 2 very useful links.
One is a link to Randy's 3 part DIY supplement recipes.
The other is a link to a Reef Chemistry calculator, that will help you determine how much supplement to add, based on your test results and your goal numbers.
