I am building a new 120 gallon reef. I will be transferring the bio from my 30 gallon to the new tank. I'm rolling around the idea of going with a DSB, say around 4", but I currently have a Diamond Goby which I like very much.

Will the Goby be compatible with the DSB? Will he stir it too much and bad things happen? :?:

villious - Welcome to Reef Frontiers!!!

I'm not sure which bad things you may be reffering to in reference to sand stirring? Do you mean by burrowing? The bad things I can think of would be corals (or other inverts) on the sand/bottom close to the burrow may get covered with sand. I would also make sure the rocks are secured when the goby is introduced. You don't want an avalanche to happen because the goby made its home under an unstable rock.

Is your goby eating prepared foods?

I found this article to be interesting (and old ): The Substrate Sifting Gobies: Fishes that Earn Their Keep by Charles Delbeek and Scott Michael

I think either way you go you should be ok as long as you keep up the husbandry for the DSB!

Yes, the goby is eating prepared food wonderfully. My concern was the goby stirring the sand too deep and "crashing" the DSB. I love to watch him work. I'm going to put my liverock on PVC "pegs", so he will not be able to affect the stability of the rock.

I've been doing a lot of research on DSB's and there are so many opinions on the dangers of a DSB or not. It makes my head spin.....

NaH2O, thanks for the link to the Goby article. Very interesting. I'd like to see if I can find a female that might pair with my male.
