Help Support Reef Aquarium & Tank Building Forum:

well looks like none of us will be seeing water in it no time soon cause I'm gonna have to move again because the house that I live in dosent seem to support modern living habits as far as electricity goes

I was running my dryer drying cloths and a space heater at the same time p. Different circuits and it tripped my breaker its been happening like thisfor a while even when I use a power surge strip it still shuts off the main power breaker in my house the house is about 30 to 40 years old I dont understand it and I'm not gonna take the risk of my pumps a d everything shutting down because some idiot or whoever wired the house didn't do something right

Dont understand y all my power to my house would shut off when I'm using a surge protecter

I really dont wanna pic up and move again but its probably gonna happen there is room for another breaker in the box but I dont know if that's gonna help or not

If any one knows anything let me know please is there anything that can be done

Thanks

I'm not an electrician or anything but my uncle changed his circuit breaker to a newer/better one because his power would always go out and after he switched it out his power doesn't go out anymore.

You really do not want to just put in a larger breaker in unless you know that you have the proper gage wiring for it or the larger breaker would not trip before the wiring shorted out and possibly start a fire. What you can do is wiring the outlet or outlets to a separate breaker. If you have room for it in your existing box a electrician should not charge you too much to do it.

Surge protector power strips just protect what is plugged into it, not the whole house. If your breakers trip it is because too much load power on the circuits which is why they trip rather than burn wires in the walls. It is common in older homes because they never expected that people would use so much power as they do these days. If you can add another circuit you may be fine, If you know someone that does electrical then I would let them look into it & see If it would work with a new circuit.

Sounds like adding another circuit won't work, if it is the Main (and not an individual breaker) that is tripping.
It could be that whoever put the breaker box in wired all the heavy stuff onto one side. If that is so, then moving the breakers to better balance the load on the two 110V branches might help. If this is a rental unit, you should have the work done by an electrician. No need to accept all that liability yourself. Also, if the person who installed the breaker box (landlord???) put all the heavy stuff on one branch of the 220V line coming in, I wouldn't necessarily trust that the breakers are the correct size. An electrician would be able to spot that immediately.

I don't know of any electricans I could get to look at it and I'm not sure if all the big stuff is wired to one side the electricans guy that did come out said he was gonna add another breaker in but never showed up again a week later and then my land lord says he can't do it cause she font want it over loading the circuit breaker

I don't know all I know is that I really don't feel like moving cause I work way to much to do that ya know

I don't know what's going on but nothing is gonna stop me from taking my tax check and getting a 330 gallon tank

I want it at about 96 to 130 in long and about 30 in wide and only about 24 to 28 in tall I really don't care about the height in between 10 feet and 12 feet long its gonna be a leopard shark tank so the longer the better I was wanting a nurse shark but I dontvthink it gonna be big enough but I'm not sure how small you can get a nurse shark it'd be nice to get one at about 7 or 8 inches

LOL

I guess I should get everything settled with me andvthe land lord first

ok they added a larger circuit to the main breaker

i mean like if it was 100 amps before its now like 2 or 300 hundred and what evr they did they said it costed them like 300 bucks

does any one know if this will work???

I have no idea what you have or what was done but sounds like you have plenty of power now LOL.
I hope is was done by someone that is qualified to do that kind of work because adding one big breaker after the main isn't normally a good thing. $300 is a bargain!

lol. thanks i hope so man

we will see i had on a 1500 watt space heater well actually 2 at the same time and the main power didnt kick off just the breaker the 2 were on so thats cool

we will see how it does when everything is up and going!!!

k...I'll browse for it. :)

Also, in the future if you want to add a link on a post from a different thread, just copy the web address on the top of the page you want to link, then paste it in your post :)
