dwarf lionfish advice

hello all , do you think it will be ok to add a dwarf lionfish to my tank , its been up and running for 4 months, at present have 1 maroon clown 1 scooter blenny and a mushroom coral , 60kilo of live rock and all water parameters are stable and as should be, would be grateful for advice thanks

Welcome to RF! You will find great info here. I've never had any experience with a lion fish so i really can't help. Just wanted to be the first to welcome you. There will be more people on a little later today that should be a little more help.

the dwarf lion should be no prob. i would be more worried about your maroon picking on him. lions are very mellow. i think he would be a nice addition

How large is your tank? Even "dwarf" lions can get fairly large. Also, I'm sure you are aware (but if not) they are venomous, so care in working in the tank is a must. They will also tend to eat any fish that will fit in their mouth, so that limits what can be kept with them.

Dwarf lions are generally pretty hardy, but getting them off live food (which almost every LFS I have ever seen has them on) can be a bit tricky. Yes, they are mellow, but they are also very capible of defending themselves.

Thanx to all for your replies and welcome, ...tank size 48" x 36" x 24" holds 270 litres approx. I will get hubby to take pic ( i'm crap with pic taking ! ) We have decided to go buy the little fellow so will let you know how he and we get on ...... ( hubby can do tank cleaning lol ) From what i've seen of this site so far is excellent and i shall enjoy being a member, thanx again for replys

I have know people with dwarf lions in there tank. Watch out for flow. they can be sensitive to flow because they swim poorly.

Yeah, they do tend to like to float causually around the tank...however if you have a calmer spot in the tank, they will tend to spend a lot of time there. As for being poor swimmers, I'll have do disagree...IME they can move quite quickly and powerfully, and with a good deal of precision when chasing prey or escaping a threat...but like many predators they also like to conserve energy, so they spend a lot of their time just floating around casually....
