Dying star fish

i got a red star fish (small size) and from the minute i introduced it to the tank it did not move and few hours later (12 hrs) i started seeing the tissue disintegrating...
what causes this? when i bought it was fine.

i have a 180g established reef with excellent parameters. Fish and corals are very healthy.

How long was your acclimation?

I acclimated mine for 24 hours, a red linkia, and so far it's doing well.

What species? Linkia stars are notoriously difficult to acclimate and have really high mortality rates.

i had it acclimated for about 30 mins. hmmm what starfish are hardy in your valued opinions?

I have a banded serpent starfish for about 4 months now in a mixed reef tank and he is growing like crazy. I acclimated him for about an hr, and this is after my apt complex put him in their fridge, because the box said perishable and they thought it was food. So he is a trooper for sure. Have you tried target feeding him with some krill or silverside? Stay away from the green brittle stars AKA green death, they will kill everything, just my $0.02
