well this sucks, i bought an "emerald" crab a few months ago thinking it'd get rid of my caulerpa problem..... well today he was caught red handed :doubt:, munching my stylo and then (he had some balls ) jumping on to my kenya trees and munching them too .. i could not believe my eyes.
ohh well, it was an easy catch .
i put it in my sump, so i guess i'm gonna just see if i can trade it for another emerald crab :lol:.

I've had bad luck with Emerald crabs as well.

Call me cruel but I fresh watered the last ones I caught eating my mushroom corals. But hey.. I am a vegetarian (have been since 1989), so don't I have a little credit with the gods?

If you do pass those you caught on - do so with forewarning.

Cheers,

Chris

Why take the chance?

because i got a caulerpa problem dood and for me there's no other way :( , my tank is to small for one veggie eating fish .

did you notice any different about the look of your emerald? i think mine looks different like there's something about the legs on this one that i don't think my last crab had, like they're a little bit hairy, they're not green, the elbows ( you know where the arm and the claw comes together :p ) it's not red/orange.

am i imagineing things? :p

I've seen mine ripping up pipe organ polyps and eating stylophora. In both cases, no visible damage was done to the coral. I left the crab in there. However, emerald crabs don't seem to live beyond about 6 months in my tank for some reason. I'm not sure why. I don't have any predator that could eat them, and I'm pretty successful with cleaner and fire shrimp.

I have had the same 3 Em crabs for over a year and they are great algae eaters. These are the bumpy deep green type with paddle type pinchers. Hope my recent bug treatment didn't off them...

here are two pics i took of the crab, sorry for the crappy pics hehe :p .
