when i was a little reefer i first started out with crushed coral as my sandbed. About 1.5 inches of it. looked neat but the algae finds the pourous holes and digs in forever and it really scratches up the wrasses. I then poured a crap load of fine aragonite sand on top of it. About an inch a week until the desired amount was set. By then i was up to 6 inches of substratre and it looked freakin awesone. Big ass dunes everywhere. Now are the any reprocusions to having too much sand?? the wrasse love it

Thanx for the info

as long as maintained to control buildup of waste its fine. avoid aquarium composting.

The good thing about having a deep, deep sandbed.....it won't fill up as quickly.
