I got my new Eheim 1260 pump the other day I'm happy with the purchase but I don't think it is as quite as everyone say but does seem to be very well made. I also think that it is much stronger than what they are rated for I had to throttle it back a little compared to the old pump I had on there and it was rated at 900 gph. One question should I remove the foam filter from the input? I was just thinking maybe that would keep pods from getting to the display tank.

I left mine on there. I think the foam is coarse enough to let pods through. In fact it must be because I run one on my nano too that has pipefish in it.

I have a 1250, not a 1260 but I removed the foam filter from mine. It works fine. I also placed a neoprene beer cozy under the pump to dampen the vibration. Mine's quieter than my skimmer pump, which I believe is a Sedra 3500.

Hmm maybe it will get quieter as it breaks in? I have foam under it and about a foot of rubber hose connecting to my return pipe still kinda makes a loud humming. I would say my $40 skimmer pump Catalina 4000 is quieter and I don't have any foam under it.

I run 2 1262's. One for my return and fuge supply and the other runs a closed loop. I can hardly hear them. The pulse of the vortech's is louder. Is the hose/pipe going to your returns making contact with anything? Maybe that is the cause.

It's fine to remove the filter block. They are more for people running fresh planted tanks. Try a mouse pad or other for the vibration and you should be good to go.

Is everyone using the larger or smaller connector for the output? I am using the smaller because my hose I have connecting the pump to my return line is I believe 3/4" and it wouldn't fit over the larger one. I don't know if that would make a difference or not.

I used a 3/4 MPT to 1" slip adapter to upsize it. You have to put a bunch of thread tape on the threads to make it seat right since it's metric threads but it works fine.

My pump came with two fittings that thread into the pump and then the other end is a nipple for the hose. I just used the smaller of the two and pushed my 3/4" hose over the threads because it was too big for the smaller nipple and too small for the bigger one.
