I am no expert with mesh/needle wheel skimmers, I have an atb medium cone with an ehiem 1260 pinwheel powering it, I know there has got to be a way to mod the pump and or venturi, I am looking to gain as much performance as possible with this pump.

Thanks in advance!!!!

Cheers!
matt

ATB is a pro skimmer company...probably not much else you can do that they havent done...
do you have the meshwheel impellar?
if not, you could mesh the one you have, but dont mess with their venturi, it's great...
about the only thing you could do is change the pump out to a sicce psk 2500, that would increase your performance but you would have to be careful not to overpower the skimmer, ie. run it with the pinwheel. about half the power consumtion of the eheim, too.

its a used skimmer and it does not have a mesh wheel. you know for them being a pro skimmer company they sure dont have very good construction of their skimmer body. I could fab a cone with better joints than this thing has lol. all in all it is a great skimmer but it only pulls like 20scfh of air and it seems to me it should be doing more...

any tips on how to do the mesh mod and how much more performance could I expect to see?

Matt

one other thing is that I am missing the silicone air hose and the little adapter to the venturi for the hose so I have been using RO tubing, perhaps this is hindering the performance from the smaller diameter hose? where can I get the proper hose and adapter for the venturi?

Thanks
Matt

I wouldn't even mess with mesh Matt as it always leads to trouble. I'd just get a sicce with a pw and call it a day. It will pull 30-35scfh on that body and will work excellent.

when you say with a PW you lose me lol, I know aout the siccie pumps but PW I do not. what is this and where do I get it?

you might have fuxored your venturi air post, hence hindering your air draw...
that pump is suppose to be drawing like 800lph with a pinwheel.
the fact that it's used...anything could have happened to it.
have you tried calling victor from ATB??
excellent customer service, he'll hook u up with whatever u need, and the best advice. it does sound like your venturi is the issue...
pics???

PW is pinwheel. You might be able to get away with a PPW (purple pinwheel).Supposed to get the same scfh as a mesh wheel but with out the start up issues

if you use the ATB meshwheel it will rock..it's much more balanced than a home job because they fasten the mesh with a nut onto the impellar.

but yes, i tend to agree with luke here, just get the sicce and be done with it....then sell me your ATB eheim...lol

FWIW i have tried all the pw's out there, the cnc, WM, swc, cv, ppw. The ppw pulls around 34-37scfh hooked up to my mini cone, the swc does 32-34, the cnc and wm do 32 and cv does 13-17scfh. The ppw does give me start up problems sometimes. The others do not. Not sure if its my sicce pump or not that causes the startup, not sure.

Matt, the eheim may be running backwards. Unplug it 5-6 times and check the readings. One way may push round 20scfh, the other (correct) way will pull round 30scfh. Nearly all pump's are directional unless you use pump's like the askoll 1500 and greater.
