I got this dam gold plated test kit in the mail today and whent to test and am having no luck. part 1.1 thru1.4 worked good i think. i got 34 drops for it to change color. but i got to the second part and i stopped the first time at 44 drops thinkin i messed up. then the second time i stopped at 70 drops. and it still hadnt changed from pink to blue. any idea what the heck could be wrong? im almost out of part d testing solution and i havent even got a result yet. im kinda annoyed and pissed

Dang that sucks... I have an Elos Mag test kit and normally am around 35 drops for the first test (A solution I believe)... And around 8 drops for the 2nd test of the (D Solution)... I would contact Jesse at Elos to see if maybe you got a bad kit...

did you do it with new water on the second set of drops ?
the directions arent very clear

yeah ill def contact him once i find the information.
and yeah i used new water. i rinsed in the sink about 6 or 7 times then rinsed in tank water another 7 or 8 times. and i did the test twice just to make sure i was doin it right

The only reason i ask is thats what i did wrong the first time LOL
Sorry it isnt working for ya

Yes! New water, which they don't say in the instructions.
water 1: bottle A-- about 30 drops for me
water 2: add 5 drops of bottle B, then bottle C 1 small scoop, and final bottle D-- about 5 drops or more for me.

glad im not the only one that did that :D
I think i even called chris at br to get it right hahaha
at least they got a good laugh outta me

Unless your mag is super duper high.

This reminds me of when a customer brought me her water to test for mag because she thought her elos mag test was defunct. Turned out she really did have mag that was so off the chart it took forever to read. Turned out she was using the bad batch of Tunze salt and hadn't thoroughly shaken up the salt mix in a while. Magnesium will slowly go to the top of the dry salt mix, so if you have a large bucket of salt that has been sitting around a while, make sure to roll the bucket around to mix up the salt. That way the magnesium gets mixed back in. Otherwise you're mixing water with UBER levels of magnesium.

Your snails and crabs acting ok?

yeah my crabs and snail and everything are doing great. sps is growing like crazy open brains are opening up. everything looks good. i use instant ocean and i just bout it from barrier reef at your last sale. not the midnight one but the one before that. but i will def mix it up. i have the guys at Bulk reef supply sendin me a new kit. he said everyonce and a great while it happens.

Alrighty, well i got my new test kit today and it worked great. i got a number of 30 on the first test and a number of 5 on the second. so i subtreacted the two got 25 then multiplied it by 50 like it said. so i think i have a magnesium level of 1250. is that a good level?

yes your aiming for around 1300 give or take..
perfect harmonic balance in a reef is
Calcium 380-420 (some like and or think higher)
Alk 8-10
mag 1300
