I hope my question didn't sound rude. Your SPS color is just amazing, the last time I was there, and when I heard you just used conditioned tap water, I could not believe it!!! The color is outstanding on your frags the last time I was there. Your Trigger must be very happy. That is what Moby, my Naso, did when she got in the 180. Just swam and swam. She was so happy. I am going to start saving for a bigger tank in the future, if we can afford it. She is growing so much. She is my second favorite fish. It really is between her and my Red Flame hawkfish. So much personality. I love them. Anyway, I just hope I didn't sound rude, because I didn't mean to. I can't wait to see more pictures.

No I didn't take it as being rude at all, it was a valid question. It's just amazing how well things have done for me on tap water. Hope you can make it by again soon to check out the new setup.

Seems like it's been one thing after another lately. A few days ago my remaining clam died. It was the foot wide Derasa that I've probably had for about a year.
Then, last night I realized that my Flame Angel is missing. I don't recall seing him all week. Maybe he died and triggered a bad situation that led to the death of my clam. Otherwise he is in one of my overflows still alive. If that's the case, I don't know how I'm going to catch it. Later tonight I will kill the pump and see if I can see him in there.

So, my big clam died last week, and my flame angel completely went missing in action around the same time, but everybody else seems happy, and I am starting to get amazing growth out of my Acros and montis. Here's a couple new pics.

Pretty sure I have around 300#. I need all that rock because I have so many darn fish and corals! Need lots of caves for hiding and surface area for growth.

Thanks for the condolences, but I think I'm getting over it. Somebody else thought maybe my angel just got old. Everybody that saw him said it was the biggest one they had seen. Maybe that could be the case. How old do clams get though? That one was at least 10 years old.

I'm sure they can live a really long time I've heard of some species living around 140 years, not sure about yours though, I'd think that was a long time

Did you use your old sand? Did you use new sand? If you used your old sand, did you rinse it? Barbie told me before clams are really sensitive during moves. You might have had a bad nitrate spike. Have you been using your RODI yet?

I used old sand, and rinsed it thoroughly before putting it in the new tank. I didn't find any readable amounts of nitrates in my tank, and from what I understand, nitrates are beneficial to the clam anyways (Everything is only good in moderation though!).

Time for an update. I almost got out of my huge tank recently, but decided to keep it going and do my best to make time for it. Lots of new corals in there like always. Got some nice new lumenarc reflectors for my halides, and a filefish for my collection of pesky anemones. I had a really bad breakout of mojanos over the last 6 months or so, and now almost a month after getting the filefish, its dificult to even notice an aiptasia or mojano. Good fish!

It's been a while! Lots of ups and downs in the last few months, and lots of new livestock of course! I recently lost 90% of my acros and a few stylos due to what I thought was an upgrade. I finally started using ro/di water with a unit hooked up to an auto top-off in my sump. Shortly after I got it hooked up, something knocked one of my Koralias loose and it pointed straight up at the corner of my tank making just enough current to spill water over the side. By the time I got home and cleaned up the swamp in the kitchen, my salinity was 1.0225 from replacing the spillage with fresh water. I spent 24 hours slowly bringing it back up, but had lots of acros RTN and my stylos and a pocillopora had polyp bailout. Other than that, most of my inhabitants are doing exceptionally well, and I got a nice little softy tank set up in my bedroom as well.
