In the shipping (especially livestock) arena you usually only hear horror stories and complaints about the shipping companies out there. Today we had a pleasant surprise. Our shipment from Hawaii arrived and the Fedex driver starts handing me fish bags in little open boxes. Then comes the Tupperware container with a large Achilles Tang in it. Apparently the Tang ripped through his bag and the water caused the box to fall apart. All the bags came out the bottom and the Achilles was nearly out of water. They opened the bag and poured what was left into the container with the fish. A really nice fish was saved and none of the other fish bags were lost when the box fell apart. We want to say a HUGE thank you to the crew at Fedex that saved these fish. You could have just delivered the mess but instead you went out of your way to help. So thank you!!

It's nice to hear a positive story about one of the shipping companies.
We usually only hear the horror stories.

During all that Christmas shipping mess in this area we had stuff coming from Fed Ex and UPS well we got this call a day before Christmas Eve it was Fed Ex calling to let us know they didn't know if they would be able to deliver and if we wanted to pick up we said heck yes went down and got our package. UPS on the other hand wouldn't let us pick up why union contract stated they had to make delivery attempts before a pick up could happen go figure. Whenever we ship or buy if we have the option of going with UPS and Fed Ex we go Fed Ex IMO way better customer service and delivery reliability. Fed Ex Rocks :) Good to hear another happy story!!!

ah yes, the Xmas fiasco with UPS...let me tell ya a story about them..and when given a choice between UPS and FedEx, FedEx wins my business 100% of the time...

I ordered fish (blue angel, kole tang, and naso tang) online from reefhotspot.com 12/17/08 with a ship date of 12/22/08..well as u know, UPS had some *issues* (and I am being kind here) with packages..after not receiving my order the next day, I called reefhotspot and they confirmed that a replacement order could be sent out (which they did, no questions asked)..bottom line I never did received the original package as UPS designated it "damaged goods".. my problem with their process is anything that says "live order" on it should have priority over boxes that can sit in the cold truck and not die. It is funny that the same day we had snow coming down, FedEx was out in my subdivision delivering packages.

I did received the replacement order (from UPS) but it took awhile..UPS doesn't stand for United Parcel Service...stands for Ultimately Poor Service.
:)

I think you should call FedEx and ask for the manager to make sure the work the folks did does not go un-noticed! They should get the recognition they deserve!

My most recent fish order was from Les in Hawaii- even though I mapped the location of the FedEx office I couldn't find it as it wasn't the same as last time. FedEx was on the phone early in the morning, calling me at the same time I was driving around looking for the office- instead of just waiting for me to show up someday they called because it was livestock. Excellent service!

I agree with Octupus. Same with where I work. Service is gauged based on customer feedback. Its best their managers know the effort they went to in delivering service above and beyond what is expected.

I used to have a friend that worked at UPS. He would call it United Punch & Smash. Heard too many horror stories from him to never mark anything as fragile. :)

Yup, FedEx for me too. My UPS guy use to be that way also and USPS is also. However, now I have a new UPS guy. The new guy just puts the package on the front porch for everybody to see or steal. Rain, ah nah, just throw on the porch. Old guy, put under back porch, cover it in plastic bag or hide it in the MT recycle bin with a note on the door or in between the doors or drop it at the neighbors. New guy: lol: does not even knock on the flippin' door when I'm home. I called to complain and they said he is only required to put it at the door of his choice and if it is raining, it is his option but not required, to cover it with a plastic bag. Why the call. I had a $150 text book delivered via UPS. I was home and it was pouring rain outside. The next day I see a soggy box on my front deck. Lucky for me this was a book from Amazon, super protected and shrink wrapped or it would have been destroyed. Of course the guy on the phone said they would then have to pay for it.

There is one fedex delivery driver that is the regular driver to Midway pet.

I don't know his name but he's of a darker tint (mean no offense, trying to be PC here)

and

HE
IS
A
BEAST

The man is like the god of fedex drivers, I bet it was him.

only delivery driver that shows up and when greeted at his truck refuses to hand you the box there. Because he wants to go into the store and look at all the fish. Always asks questions and such.

fedex 100% LFS friendly

I am glad that Fed Ex is doing a great job...when I first got into the business of shipping fish(2 yrs. ago) I got offers from all the shipping companies DHL,UPS,and FED EX trying to solicit my business. after explaining to all three companies the product that I ship is perishable. Fed Ex was the only company that guaranteed me that if I got their business they would notify my customers when the package has arrived at the pickup location. Since going with Fed Ex Two years ago Fed Ex has always come to bat for me. They have been increasing my shipping discounts(which I can pass that savings on to the customer and make my livestock prices more affordable) They have been keeping their promise and notifying my customers of package arrivals(as long as I put the Recipients ph# on the airway bill) and In two years of shipping Fed Ex lost only 1 package(yup just 1 package out of the 100s of packages I shipped with them) and that was during the busy holiday season....I am proud to say that I do business with Fed Ex...Aloha Les

Good to hear that i'm not the only one that refuses to ship UPS and goes fedex every time. Glad to hear that they saved the tang!
