does anyone have any feed back on aquamedic products particulary lighting and skimmers? im thinking of buying the flotor 3000 blue skimmer and the 250w ocean lights plus... great stuff or steer clear?

I am not familiar with their product line but hopefully someone else will chime in.

the turboflotor is an ok skimmer. It does work but it a bit over priced IMO/IME
I havent't used their lights but they looked well built but again over priced.

You're better off with another brand. Reef Octopus skimers are readily available in Aus I believe :)

I know quite a few aussie reefers I could refer you to as to their skimmer experience and recommendation

great what sought of metal halide lighting do all of the aussie's use because there are know real retrofit kits., only choice is really aquaone, aquamedic or arcadia

id much rather use an icecap style system

if you could ask the aussie reefers there recommendation for a 120g tank that would be very very helpful!

At least one of them used the arcadia units before and I didnt recall him complaining much. Then again he might have been on the piss too much so to notice

You would be better off getting a couple Luminarc reflectors and put together the lights yourself though. I know the Luminarcs can be bought in Aus as my mates are using them.

I will ask them to drop by this thread and comment.

incidentally have you checked out the MASA site?

I found this for sale

http://www.masa.asn.au/phpBB2/ads_item.php?id=8871

3 x 250w halide light complete with reflector
Price $150 each
Location NSW - Sydney

That's not bad at all

thats a good deal i wonder if they come with ballast
i would like to build this all myself though and i have been hurnt before buying things off the internet
i never new that site existed thank you kindly i will have to join and ask him about these lights you have been very helpfull that you!

For a skimmer mate, go with a Deltec or equivalent. I reckon RO skimmers are crap. I bought my skimmer from Luke at reef filtration, and a few other Aussies have as well. They are great skimmers, but you've got to let Luke know your Aussie, and he'll tell you what pump to buy locally.

Here's Luke's site,

You'll need a Laguna pump, so get them from here,

For lighting, ballast etc, even T5's.

Lumen bright III you can buy these from the US, but the postage is a killer.

I've dealt with all the shops I've linked, and all have exceptional service and are well priced. HTH.

for the lumenarc copies, you can get it from the reef shop:

I used the ocean light before and pretty OK with it but we are talking about few years back. I have upgraded the lumenarcs style reflectors and DIY T5s. got my gears from Reefinglife:

In regards to the skimmer, each on their own. i saw the flotor 3000 blue in action in one of our LFS in sydney, (majestic aquarium - which i think you may probably noticed that) the performance is not that great to me. you may better to get Reef Octopus skimmer locally. If you have that much money to spend, try to shoot Michael@reefinglife an email to ask him get some decent skimmer for you. I have been dealing with Michael for few years now and his after sales service is very good. he is the only guy that i know from online store that honor on the warranty thing.

A lot reefers on MASA may probably suggest you to go with guppies aquarium but i would suggest to do some search on MASA for these business's feedback.

HTH

woah i have almost got an overload of information in the last 10 minutes thanks guys really appreciated

what are RO skimmers may i ask? whats the difference didnt know there was one.. sorry

If that's the case, try Majestic aquarium. I found that Paul is great to deal with, i pretty much go there everyweek.

Do some research on the net and decided what you want, your LFS is not always right in most case but they are very handful/helpful if you need something urgently....

I agree with Chris I don't think you can go past Luke's Skimmers when it comes to value for money (I have the 300A) and he was very easy and great to deal with (like you I detest the internet)

Lighting I use Lumenbright large reflectors which I purchased from

http://www.ausfrags.com.au/shop/coral-lumen-bright-large-reflector-mogul-p-468.html PITA to deal with but hey you can win them all.

I personally think Aquamedic skimmers are overpriced buckets of crap but that just my opinion

Cheers

ohh ok ok thank you so much, you have given me alot to think about.,
im very new with the internet i had know idea information like this was out there,. buying off the internet intimidates me a little i like my LFS.. looks like ill have to grow around it... lol thanks again guys

Mate, I used to be the same, but I don't live any where near a supplier. So I either travel to Sydney (for livestock) or use the net for everything else.
