R.I.P.
I'm feeling really dumb. For the past few months Ive been trying everything to get some sort of coral growth (my old tank did great). All my acro frags would bleach out and die for no apparent reason. My ca is 450, alk 12, salinity 35 and temp is 80 all very stable. I tried many new test kits, moving lights up and down, new bulbs, bigger skimmer, bigger pumps, rotating outputs, rowa, carbon, kalk and no kalk,$$$$$.
This past fri I did a water change and tossed the dirty sock in the waste water and forgot to dump it. The next morning my bucket was was full of life. At least 100 baby snails, the blue bucket wall was almost white with all the pods. This sock was in the sump for only a day.
The sock has not been used for three full days now. My blue crocea's are now blue again instead of brown. All the Digitatas have white grow-out tips. The teal acro is regaining its color instead of white. All three lps are fully open, the green brain has never been open during the day. A 3" patch of zenia poped up. The one patch of cyno I had died off in one night. My glass is now covered in pods like it was in my old tank. My ORP is climbing 10mv per day steady.
My guess is that every night when the tank got active, the high flow would just wash every small life form into the sock. They would breed but could'nt escape. Since it was used since day one no real populations could build.
