I am thinking about making a fish guard with some tennis racket strings with acrylic rods. Any one tried?

You mean to cover the top of the tank so the fish don't jump out? Post a pic if you do it. Here is what I did with a DIY window screen kit and some outdoor pond/garden netting from Mclendon's:

there is easier stuff to work with than tennis strings. Alot of people use gutter guard. Costs about $6 for a pretty big roll.

that's some awesome handy-work! thank you for sharing! i'm trying to talk my bf into building one for our new tank so we can pick up another blue spot jawfish this summer. apparently, our first one was suicidal. :(

I'd just use egg crate light panel to cover the tops of the tanks....it's very cheap for a 4'x8' panel...about $10 you can use a pliers to cut it down to size....Aloha Les

i like the screen better, seems to block less light but both would work fine.

I tried the egg crate thing as well and was not happy with how it diffused the light. In a fish only tank though, the egg crate will work fine.
