my 20g has developed a strong fishy smell. all parmeters are good i dunno what is going on but a fish is verry stressed and i can only find this problem my other 2 tanks do not smell like this. as of now im prepareing for a large wc. what could be the problem.

Are you running a sand bed? If so, could be from it. Carbon as you mentioned is good to use. Good luck! :)

interesting! I have a large Koi pond in my house, totally odorless unless there is a problem with a stressed fish, then I can smell it right away and take appropriate action, usually 50lbs of salt lol. If you can smell something other than the normal salt tank smell and have a stressed fish its possibly bacterial so carbon will mask the odor but you should investigate the root issue

I notice that yucky smell if I have spilled some tank water on the floor the day before and forgot to mop it up. This happens sometimes with my sump downstairs. Could that be it? Maybe the stressed fish is coincidental?
